To refill or NOT to?

As the prices of OEM HP inkjet cartridges goes up in the market, more people are considering to resort in refilling their HP inkjet cartridges instead. What’s wrong with it? It’s the cheapest option, it let’s you save up to 80% of your total expenses in buying brand-new cartridges, some may say. Well, yes, the initial savings might be great at the beginning, but it might not be necessarily worth it in the end. Refilling HP inkjet cartridges can cause some serious problems, and you might want to consider them before you decide to get your HP ink cartridges refill. Here are some of them:

Cartridge Reliability – According to the research done by Buyers Laboratory Inc. (BLI), a leading provider of competitive intelligence, testing and reviews on printers, 72% of the refilled HP inkjet cartridges they tested failed to perform properly–32% of them were dead-on-arrival while the remaining 42% prematurely expires.

Refills Can Be Messy – For printer users who consider buying inkjet refill kits and do the refilling themselves, you must realize that this is quite a messy and meticulous task to do. Some inkjet refill kits are poorly designed and other inkjet cartridges aren’t designed to be refilled at all. Under these situation, refilling inkjet cartridges can be a pain.

The Ink Leaks – The ink quality used in refilling is of utmost importance. If a low-quality ink is used, this can cause terrible ink leaks. Some of the refilled HP inkjet cartridges tested by BLI showed ink leaks spilled in their plastic bags, print head nozzles and in their cartridge packing interior.

Printer Problems - Even if you use high-quality ink, refilling your HP inkjet cartridges for multiple times, the remaining residue of the old ink can clog the microscopic nozzles causing blots on your printouts and damage to your printer hardware.

But don’t think there’s no other option than to buy OEM HP inkjet cartridges for your HP printers. There’s another alternative and tha is to choose remanufacutured or compatible HP ink cartridges instead. Like refilled HP inkjet cartridges, they cost less and let you save up to 60%.

At ColorTonerExpert.com, we offer high-quality remanufactured and compatible HP inkjet cartridges, that meet the standards and performance of their OEM counterparts.
Laser toner cartridges are the life of laser-jet printers, without them, it’s a no-brainer that your printers won’t work. Needless to say, if you want your laser printer to last then you should take care of its toner cartridges. And this article is going to give you some helpful tips on how to handle your laser toner cartridges with care.

Avoid the light – Toner cartridges are light-sensitive. If it’s possible, do not expose them to excessive light which will cause some damage to its components.

Room Temperature - At all times, keep your toner cartridges at room temperature. Excessive cold, heat or humidity will damage it.

It’s Not Suited for Hot Stuff - Heat is the number one killer of toner. If left in the sunlight or near a heat register, it will cause the toner to fuse within the cartridges which will cause on print blots later.

Refrain Your Curiosity - Do not touch the electric components of your laser toner cartridges.

Don’t Open the Plastic Casing - Do not open the plastic casing around the cartridges.

Take Note of its Shelf Life - Unopened toner cartridges have a shelf life of about one year. While opened toners have a shelf life of a couple of months. It would be best if you use your toner cartridges within one year.

Do Not Leave it Behind - You should never leave the toner cartridges in your car for any length of time, as even on cool days the temperature can exceed on safe levels. Doing so may distort the plastic in the cartridge.

Do Not Leave the Empty Cartridge - When your cartridge is empty, do not let it sit for a long time before refilling or replacing it.

If it Stained - If your hands or clothes got stained with the toner, wash it with cold water. Never try to rinse it with hot or warm water or it will set the toner in.

Just follow these tips and you can make sure that your laser toner cartridges will work fine and dandy. Treat them as your printer’s heart and your toner cartridges will surely pay you back with beautiful printouts. And most importantly, you should make sure that you only purchase from reliable online retailers that offer premium quality toner cartridges.

We discussed in a previous article “Laserjet Printers vs. Inkjet Printers” that laserjet printers are likely to come in handy when printing a large bulk of documents and are better in printing fine details such as small texts compare to inkjet printers. Laserjet printers can also print much faster than inkjet printers. These two factors which are speed and high printing needs, makes them more popular in business corporations and organizations.

And since laserjet printers are likely to be used in business, in this article, we are going to talk about laser toner cartridge, the single unit that holds the toner and the most important part of a laserjet printer.

What are laser toner cartridges?

Laser toner cartridges, also called as toner cartridges or laser toners, are the consumable components of a laserjet printer. They’re the ones that holds the toner, a powder composed of carbon melt-mixed with polymer to create a high-quality printout.

Cartridge Types

There are generally three types of laser toner cartridges sold in the market:

(1) genuine toner cartridges also called as OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) cartridges- these are cartridges produced by printer manufacturers.

(2) remanufactured toner cartridges or remans- are empty-toner cartridges recycled, inspected, cleaned, reprocessed and refilled with high-grade toners to match the performance of OEMs.

(3) compatible toner cartridges- these are cartridges produced by third party companies and sold under different names. These cartridges are made from scratch; they are not OEM cartridges that are refilled or remanufactured.

What makes Laser Toner Cartridges better for business?

Price

Laser toner cartridges cost more than ink cartridges. But there is a way to save money and that is by buying premium remanufactured toner cartridges or compatible toner cartridges. By choosing high-quality remanufactured laser toners or reliable compatible toner cartridges, you save up to 60% of your printing costs without sacrificing the quality of your printouts.

Page – Yield

Page yield or cartridge yield refers to the certain number of pages you can print in one cartridge based on the certain amount of text coverage per page. Laser toner cartridges have higher page yield compared to ink cartridges thus it can print more papers.

Quality Printout

Laser toner cartridges work bests when printing detailed text documents including printing small fonts in monochrome. It’s a smart choice if you want to print high bulk of documents with fine details and sharp texts.

Overview

Laser toner cartridges are best for business organizations and corporations where there is a high demand in printing large volume of documents. Though it’s more expensive than buying ink cartridges, toner cartridges have a higher yield and lasts more than ink cartridges, thus making its per page costs less.

Let me give some ways to help you.

We all know that our printing supplies can cost a large portion of the budget especially in business organizations with their high printing needs. Perhaps there are times when you feel frustrated with all the bucks spilling out of your money cartridge. Well, now, you don’t have to feel that way. There are plenty of ways for you to save on your printing costs and work on the minimal budget you have.

Here are some of them:

1.) Choose your printer – Saving money on your printing starts in buying the perfect printer for you. Before searching for new printer models, make sure you’ll get the best printer suited for your printing needs. For example, if you typically print over 100 pages a month, then don’t buy a printer rated 500 pages a month. Consider your printing needs when buying a printer so you can optimize its use.

In About.com review about printers and scanners, the top 3 most affordable printers are the (1) Brother MFC-255CW All-in-One Printer, (2) Epson Workforce 60 Color Inkjet Printer and (3) Epson WorkForce 30 Inkjet Printer.

2.) Know your cartridge–its price, page yield & efficiency – Replacing ink or toner cartridges for your printer is going to be a big part of your on-going printing expenses. If you want to save money, the best advice I could give you is to purchase quality remanufactured toner/ink cartridges or compatible toner/ink cartridges from reliable suppliers or online shops. Aside from saving money, by buying remanufactured toner/ink cartridges, you can lessen your carbon footprint and help benefit the environment.

Aside from the price, the cartridges’ efficiency and page-yield–the number of pages it can print, matter too. Take note, laser toner cartridges cost more than ink cartridges but their higher yields make per-page costs lower.

3.) Shop online- Shopping online is a great way for finding discounted printers and other printing supplies. Most of these online shops, offers discount coupons and free shipping as well.

4.) Set your printer to Eco-mode- This setting uses less ink or toner in its printing process resulting in a lighter but still readable printout. When printing for drafts or school works, choosing this setting is a smart way for saving your printer’s ink and toner.

You see, you can save money and lessen your printing costs without having the fear to produce less. Just bear these things in mind and you can enjoy your printing experience even on a budget.

You can start now with your cartridges! At ColorTonerExpert, we provide you with a wide selection of affordable laser toner cartridges for known printer brands such as HP, Brother, Dell and other major printer manufacturers. Plus, we offer discounts and coupons for our quality products backed by 1 year warranty.
If you own a laserjet printer at home or use laserjet printers in the office, it is impossible for you not to be acquainted with the term “laser toners” or “toner cartridges”. They are referred to as the cartridges that contain the toner (a powdery ink). But if you’re a printer user that wants to know more about your laser printer and how does its laser toner cartridges work, then you stumbled upon the right article. Here, we’re going to discuss almost everything about your laser toner cartridges and what are its functions.

Laser Toner Cartridge

Laser toner cartridges are single units that held the toner. It is used mostly in laser printers, fax machines and low-end copiers. The toner is transferred into the paper thru the electrostatic charged drum unit, and fused into the paper by heated rollers during the printing process.

Toner

Toner is a powder composed of carbon melt-mixed with polymer to create a better quality printout. It is stored within a hopper inside the cartridge with a removable casing.

How does it work?

As the printing process starts, the printer starts to apply an electrical charge to the drum unit. The laser then writes the page image on the drum with negative charge. The printer’s drum then rotates, and as the image is being written, the developer picks up the toner from the hopper. Since the toner is positively charge while the drum has negative charge, the toner sticks to the paper the image that the laser drew. The paper with the dry toner then runs through the fuser rollers heated by internal quartz lamps and melts the toner onto the paper producing your printout.

What are the types of Laser Toner Cartridges?

1.) OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) Laser Toner Cartridges – are the same ones that come in your laser printer when you first buy them. They are generally manufactured by the company that makes the printer.

2.) Remanufactured Toner Cartridges – are previously used toner cartridges that have been restored at the factory. Empty-toner cartridges are disassembled, inspected, cleaned and re-filled then undergo quality-control tests before being sold to ensure that they offer the same high quality as their OEM counterparts. There are two advantages in using remanufactured toner cartridges: (1) they are cheaper than OEMs but provides the same quality and (2) since they are recycled cartridges, they are environmentally-friendly than your OEMs.

3.) Compatible Toner Cartridges – are similar to your OEM cartridges but are made by a different manufacturer. A quality compatible toner cartridge cost much less than a brand new OEM cartridge, while offering similar printing results.

4.) Toner Refills -are generally the most inexpensive to purchase. Most toner refills are sold in kits that include everything you need to refill your empty toner.

The toner cartridge technology has developed over time, starting only from black toners used in copy machines and fax machines, there are now multi-color toners for laser jet printers suited to produce excellent color printouts for the users.
